Inside Modern Aluminum Extrusion: From Billet to Precision Profile

Aluminum extrusion turns a prepared billet into a continuous profile with a defined cross-section. The process looks simple from a distance, but repeatable results depend on coordinated temperature, pressure, tooling and handling.

1. Prepare the billet and tooling

The billet is conditioned for forming while the die and press are prepared for the target profile. Stable preparation helps the metal flow consistently through the tool.

2. Press through the die

The press applies force to move the billet through the die opening. Tool geometry defines the profile while process control helps manage surface condition and dimensional consistency.

3. Cool, stretch and finish

After leaving the press, the profile is cooled and handled carefully. Straightening, cutting, aging, machining or surface finishing can then be applied according to the product specification.

Precision extrusion is the result of a controlled process chain, not a single machine setting.
